Application Process

How to apply

Applying to study at ALG is straightforward. Simply follow the step-by-step guide below.

If you are a brand new student interested in applying for ALG, you can submit your application online directly to us, or if you prefer, you can apply through an approved education agent. We recommend applying as early as possible to ensure there is plenty of time to organise your Australian student visa to study at ALG.

Please note, if you are a current student and wish to apply for an additional course with ALG, you will need to complete our Returning Student Application form.

Visit our Future Students FAQ page if you have any questions or uncertainties pre-enrolment. Find everything you need to know about applying, including entry requirements, Letter of Offer instructions, English proficiency, and more.

Complete the online application

Complete the online application

After you have decided on the course(s) you would like to study at ALG, complete the online application. Once this is complete you will receive a confirmation email and payment instructions.

Please ensure you provide the following supporting documentation: a certified copy of a valid passport, a certified copy of your previous studies/qualifications translated into English (Please refer to the ALG Overseas Qualifications Equivalence Information Sheet), and proof of English language proficiency if you are not a native English speaker (as stated in the ALG English Proficiency Requirements).
Complete the online Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Test
Before you can start your studies at ALG, you must successfully complete the Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) online test. If you’re applying for more than one course, you only need to take the LLN test once. The purpose of the test is to make sure you have the language, literacy, and numeracy skills necessary for your course. It will also help us understand how we can support you in any areas where you might need assistance during your studies with us.
Application review and outcome

Application review and outcome

Once ALG receives and processes your application, you can expect to receive an outcome within 24 hours. If successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer outlining your chosen course(s), tuition fees, and our terms and conditions. The offer may be a full offer or conditional offer requesting further documentation. To secure your place, you will need to formally accept the Letter of Offer and make any necessary payments as outlined.

Once we’ve confirmed your acceptance and payment, we’ll issue your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). You can now apply for a student visa. Your education agent will be by your side to assist you with your visa application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between LLN and English proficiency?

The LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) test assesses an individual’s performance in the 5 core skills, and these are: learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy. The test ensures that you have the basic skills required to complete your studies and succeed in the workplace. On the other hand, if English is not your first language, you need to show evidence that you have the required level of English proficiency before starting your intended course, as all classes at ALG are conducted in English.

Both LLN and English proficiency are equally important to ensure that you are capable in succeeding in your studies. The LLN test is required to be taken only once throughout your whole journey with ALG, and if you have not studied with us for more than 2 years, we may ask you to complete the LLN test again.

For more details, please refer to our Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements and English Proficiency Requirements Factsheet.

Step 1: Indicate on the application form Step 4 that you request to take ALG English placement test.

Step 2: Send a test request email to admissions@alg.edu.au. Once we receive your request, we will send you the online test and test instructions via email.

Can I apply for Course Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning?

ALG supports course credit practices, including the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfers.

Credit Transfer (CT)
ALG will recognise credit transfer for students that hold an equal unit of competency part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Even if the training package title is different from the one where the unit of competency was completed, the student is eligible for a credit transfer.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students who wish to apply for RPL are strongly advised to speak with ALG admissions to ensure any application contains suitable supporting evidence. This is for information purposes only and is not the formal assessment of the student’s RPL request. In applying for RPL, the student will be assessed against the requirements of the units of competency listed in the relevant qualification. The list of units of competency is available on the ALG website under each specific course page.

More information on this process can be found in our Course Credit Policy.

Note: Applying for a student visa under the Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) can sometimes require additional evidence. To check the requirements you may need to provide, visit the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website and enter your country of passport and the ALG CRICOS number (03071E).
