YOGA TEACHER PROGRAM
Our yoga teacher program ensures you graduate as a well-developed and skilled teacher. The program is divided into practical and theory sessions giving you all the tools to teach yoga competently and authentically. You will learn to plan, organise and conduct yoga classes for groups or individuals, including essential methodology for teaching asana (postures), pranayama (breath), and meditation.

The Diploma of Yoga Teaching allows you to build on the CIV Yoga towards becoming a Specialist Yoga Teacher. You will deepen your knowledge and skills with advanced subjects of Yoga, meditation and philosophy. You will learn the principles of Yoga Therapy and how to deal with students who have special needs and chronic conditions. You will also undertake learning on Yoga for the stages of life including yoga for pregnancy, children’s yoga and yoga for the aged.

What style of Yoga will I learn?
Students teaching practice will follow the Hatha Yoga Tradition, our highly experienced teachers are trained in a variety of styles and over the duration of the course, students will experience the vastness of traditional and modern yoga styles.
Does the course help me establish myself as a Yoga practitioner?
Not only does the course equip students with the skills and knowledge to excel in the Yoga industry, but our class subjects also inspire engagement with outside yoga studios, teachers and the wellbeing industry to help you build a strong yoga network by completing of their course.
UNITS OF COMPETENCY
The learner group for this qualification are people wishing to gain a qualification in order to work as a yoga teacher providing support to groups of individuals within a studio setting or those wishing to open their own small business.
The learner group are those who require a structured, classroom based program with significant practical experience.
This is an entry level course and no previous skills in yoga teaching are necessary. Experience of the yoga industry is preferred but not essential.
Entrants must have:
- Successfully completed the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) online test. Please note that if you are applying for more than one course with us, you will only need to complete the LLN online test once. Students returning to studies at ALG after a significant gap may be required to complete the LLN online test at the discretion of ALG. For more details on how to complete the online test, please refer to 8.Appendix_Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements Factsheet.
The purpose of the LLN online test is to ensure that you have the LLN skills needed to undertake your course. It will also show how we can assist you in any areas where you may need help while studying with us.
- Sufficient level of English proficiency in order to interact with and document client interactions, interpret documents, learner guides and assessment tools, prepare written reports and plans. For more information, please view our English Requirements Factsheet.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and manage professional networks and client relationships with clients of various ages and backgrounds.
Academic Entry Requirements
- Year 10 or equivalent and above.
The learners’ physical attributes may influence their ability to complete the training and assessment. Assessment and training requires students to be physically capable of performing a range of yoga activities. Manual handling is also required.
Students need to be able to relate to clients of differing ages and backgrounds, have a keen interest to assist students to learn to yoga, have good problem solving skills, sound literacy and numeracy skills, be enthusiastic, tactful, patient and have a sense of humour.
The course is aimed at students 18 years of age and over.
