MEET BEN

I am the State Lead Trainer in Sydney for Fitness here at ALG. I have over 12 years of experience in the Fitness industry as an Exercise Physiologist and Strength & Conditioning coach for sports such as Swimming, Golf, Rugby, and League. I have now been training and assessing for 4 years and what I love about teaching is seeing development of a passion for health and fitness in students. Building awareness of the importance of a balance especially in chasing goals and influencing positive and open mindsets of students is what I love about my role.

ASSESSMENT PREP TIPS FROM ANDRES

I would love to share some tips for you to prepare for your assignments. These tips are based on my personal experience and they have been very useful for me to complete my assessments. As most of us work full time hours, getting assignments done can be quite difficult, however, we can use some strategies to make the best out of it and complete our assignments on time.

Start your assignments as early as possible, this will give you more time to complete them. I always try and spend 1-2 hours a day on the weekdays and weekends. Even if I answer one or two questions per day, this will help me complete my assignment, and when it gets closer to submission date I don’t have to stress or stay up late to complete.

Take smart notes as some of the assessment subjects are discussed over the class. If possible, have your assignments open as you can answer a few questions while the teacher is explaining it to you.

Use evidence based research from websites that are reliable and will give strength to your answers. Remember to use Harvard referencing as this will validate your answer and give credit to all the websites you used to complete your assignments.

Study with a group of friends who are in your same course, spending time after classes could be helpful to share information or discuss about subjects that will contribute to complete the assignments.

Remember, doesn’t matter if you just answered one questions in one day, but it will be one less question to worry at the end. Start your assignments earlier, and it will be less stressful for you at the end.

END OF TERM STRESS...DON'T LET IT GET YOU DOWN!

A little stress can be a good thing: it can be the motivational push that we need to get things done, however, sometimes managing that everyday stress on top of looming assessment and exam stress just makes things a little too tough to deal with.  So, let’s look at some ways that we can help ourselves feel a bit more at ease as we get to the end of the term.  1. Let’s take a deep breath. You can settle down your body’s stress response and bring your focus back to the present, by setting aside a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness practices. Simple breathing exercises can help clear your head and centre yourself back in the ‘now and here’. As a result, you have more time to calmly work through any concerns you may be experiencing, get rid of any negative thought patterns and get through more productive revision.2. Eat, Sleep, Exercise, and Repeat! Pulling all-nighters, eating poorly, and getting little to no exercise throughout the day can all worsen anxiety symptoms. Make sure you get 8 hours of sleep each night (or as much as you can), enough slow-releasing carbohydrates, less coffee, enough water, and at least 30 minutes of exercise each day for your body to function at its best.3. You’re not alone! You’re surrounded by people in the exact same boat, the same due dates, the same content and the same workload. Create a study group, get talking to your peers! Keeping connected to those around you is important for your mental health but keeping people around who you can also learn from is even better. Two brains is always better than one!  4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Never feel guilty if you need assistance in any capacity. When you’re having trouble whether it’s assessment or exam related, about work, or just about life, you can always discuss your feelings with your friends, family, or a member of our Student Experience team. We are all here to help, and if we might not be able to help you directly, we will be happy to help you find your way. Don’t be scared to seek professional assistance and support if you ever need.  We offer a free counselling service to all our students available 24/7. Click the link below for more information.
